How to Style Your Basket in Every Season

by Grace Gordon September 23, 2018

In a world of capsule wardrobes and sustainable shopping, transitional pieces are such important pieces to have in our wardrobes. They’re useful from season to season in a variety of forms meaning no wasted space or resources. And there’s no better example of this than the basket bag.

For the past couple of years the humble basket has had a comeback like no other. Traditionally an artisanal product for use in the field, it was Jane Birkin circa 1966 that cemented its status as a chic design staple.

Now, as the weather shifts and long days on sandy beaches are a distant but glorious memory, we’re asked time and time again - how do you style your basket in every season?

Here are our top 3 tips for getting the most from your Basket Bags:

1 - Goodbye Plastic, Hello Straw (or Doum plant more specifically)

If you haven’t read our article on plastic waste you may not know that since the 5p bag charge was introduced by British supermarkets the nation has used almost 6 billion fewer single use bags a year. That’s a lot of rubbish. To do our bit, and also because you’ll look like you’re living the provincial dream, we recommend taking our Basket Backpack on any trip to the shops. It’s super lightweight and deceptively spacious so perfect for transporting your evening meal, a little dessert plus maybe a bottle of wine or two.

2 - Storage for the Home

Being that we love all things basic, places to hide away knick knacks, thingymajiggs and bits ‘n’ bobs can be something of an issue in our home. For those of you with less than ample space (us included) you don’t have to sacrifice style for storage. Popped on top of a wardrobe or under your units, baskets help keep up the illusion of tranquility. They’re hardy too so double them up as toy boxes and toilet roll holders. We recommend our Woven Shopper for these types of jobs. It’s super spacious and easily folds away into the smallest of spaces.

3 - Show off your Greenery

There’s something about the harmony between natural materials that makes this option work in any home. Pots can be expensive and not-so-easily adaptable, making baskets the perfect option to easily revamp your living space. Our French Basket is perfectly sized for small house plants and when it’s not looking after your favourite cactus, pop it on a door hook for pretty little accent.
